Directional Tires

Staggered Fitments
Some performance cars have wider tires on the rear than the front. These cannot be rotated front to rear at all - only side to side on the same axle (and only if the tires are not directional). Many staggered setups simply cannot be rotated, which means those tires need more frequent inspection.

A good shop will do more than just swap tires during a rotation. They should also:

- Check tire pressure and adjust to factory specification
- Inspect brake pads and rotors since the wheels are already off
- Torque the lug nuts to the proper specification (not just blast them on with an impact gun)

Can You Over-Rotate?
Not really. More frequent rotation just means more even wear. Some performance driving instructors rotate after every track day. For normal driving, 5,000-7,500 miles is the sweet spot - frequent enough to matter, infrequent enough to be convenient.
DIY Tire Rotation
If you want to do it yourself:
- Park on a level surface. Use wheel chocks.
- Loosen all lug nuts slightly before lifting the car.
